The SCPKU Faculty Fellowship Program is open to all fields, disciplines, and schools. Those with existing research are encouraged to apply, but no familiarity with China is required. A key goal of the program is to globalize the experiences and networks of Stanford faculty and students by increasing opportunities that will lead to new, long-term research programs and collaborations in China, regardless of field of specialization. Awardees are expected to spend the bulk of their fellowship period in Beijing and maximize their time at SCPKU.
Faculty Fellows can use their awards to support a variety of activities including research and writing, archival research, field work, and collaboration with Chinese partners on existing research projects in many different disciplines. Recipients will be required to give a public talk regarding their work while at SCPKU and are encouraged to interact with faculty and students at Peking University and the broader research community -- both in and around Beijing as well as other major research institutions in China. Where appropriate, interdisciplinary research teams can be supported. Fellowship awards will be determined by a campus-wide faculty advisory committee.
Eligibility:
All Stanford Academic Council members, Medical Center Line Faculty, and Active Emeriti are eligible to apply. A faculty advisory committee representing a cross-section of Stanford's academic community will review the applications and determine the awards. In the selection process, the advisory committee will strive for diversity of disciplines as well as the potential for proposed activities to leverage local resources and create new research opportunities and directions for the faculty member. Proposals should be as specific as possible regarding research objectives and possible collaborators. Awardees are expected to spend the bulk of their fellowship period in Beijing and maximize their time at SCPKU.
How can the funds be used?
The Stanford Center at Peking University (SCPKU) offers fellowships to Stanford faculty (members of the Academic Council, Medical Center Line faculty, and Active Emeriti) engaged in research in China, or who want to explore new opportunities or collaborations. SCPKU Faculty Fellowships provide support for up to three months in residency at SCPKU in Beijing. If space and funding permits, SCPKU will consider requests to extend fellowships for up to one academic year.
