King Center on Global Development Conference and Event Support Spring Deadline
The King Center invites proposals from Stanford faculty, postdoctoral fellows, and graduate students for conferences, lectures, workshops, or other events focused on global development and poverty-related topics.
We will consider supporting events that:
- Bring together academics, global development practitioners, policymakers, and/or private sector leaders to address solutions-oriented research.
- Focus on disciplines involved in global development, including but not limited to earth sciences, economics, engineering, medicine, political science, or policy.
- Align with the King Center’s mission to empower a multidisciplinary community of scholars to conduct path-breaking research, shape policy and practice, and train and inspire a new generation of global leaders.
Events may include lectures, smaller workshops, or larger multi-day conferences. Requests to co-fund departmental seminar series may also be considered. The King Center may be able to support events with funding, and on a limited basis, King Center staff may be available to assist with event planning and logistics. The King Center can also reserve in-house conference room space based on room availability.
Due to high demand, only a few proposals will be selected for funding and/or logistical support.
Application process
Submit an Event Support Request
Please note that the primary event organizers must be Stanford faculty members, postdoctoral fellows, or PhD students. PhD and postdoc organizers must have a faculty member as an active member of the event's organizing committee.
To receive event support, especially if it involves requests for event space or staff support, please apply as early as you can. As a general reference, space on campus for events over 30 people is in high demand and fills up quickly, up to a year in advance for large conference rooms.
Before applying, you can reach out to our event planner for a brief consultation about the support and planning processes at kingcenter_events@stanford.edu.
We will review event proposals once per quarter—2025-26 application deadlines are:
• Autumn 2025: Sunday, October 26, 2025 (for Winter events and beyond)
• Winter 2026: Sunday, January 18, 2026 (for Spring events and beyond)
• Spring 2026: Sunday, April 12, 2026 (for Summer events and beyond)
• Summer 2026: Sunday, July 5, 2026 (for Autumn events and beyond)
Requests will be reviewed by a small committee appointed by the center’s Faculty Steering Committee. Committee members who submit a request will recuse themselves from discussions of their own submissions. Funding decisions are typically announced approximately two weeks after the deadline.
On the application form, in addition to providing details about the proposed event, we will also ask you to:
- Make a copy of the budget template, complete it to the best of your ability, and attach it to your application submission
- Confirm that you have reviewed the guidelines on how to acknowledge the King Center’s support, as well as how the King Center can support your event communications
- Confirm that you have reviewed and will complete the Post-Event Report form after the King Center-supported event takes place, to help us better feature your event in reports to our supporters.
Scope of request
Events that bring together faculty in new ways are encouraged. Event topics may involve the broad range of disciplines involved in global development, including but not limited to earth sciences, economics, engineering, medicine, political science, or policy.
Events may include lectures, smaller workshops, or larger multi-day conferences. Requests to co-fund departmental seminar series may also be considered. The King Center supports academic events, and events that bring policymakers or private sector leaders and academics together.
Policies
Please note that due to center policy, no honorariums can be paid.
