Stanford Global Studies (SGS) invites proposals for Course Innovation Awards to support the development of courses focused on substantive topics of regional and global interest. We are especially interested in supporting courses that can be offered through the new first-year Civic, Liberal, and Global Education (COLLEGE) requirement.
Our goal is to spur the design of courses that can appeal to large numbers of students and will engage first-year students. We particularly welcome proposals that feature cross-disciplinary teaching partnerships and co-curricular activities that engage students in learning beyond the classroom. Examples include, but are not limited to, field trips, guest lectures, and seminars.
Awards will support the development of courses that meet the following COLLEGE requirement learning goals:
Develop the critical and ethical thinking skills and knowledge base for responsible local, national, and global citizenship.
Develop in students an awareness of cultural diversity, as well as cultural self-awareness, and the ability to recognize connections between cultural, economic, and social practices across countries.
Provide students with a set of methods for conducting comparative or systemic studies of global phenomena.
