The Stanford Center for Human and Planetary Health at the Woods Institute for the Environment is pleased to announce a call for proposals for Early Career Awards. The Human and Planetary Health Early Career Award program provides seed grants from $50,000 up to $200,000 over two years to Stanford early-career faculty members (Assistant Professors, Instructors, or Clinical Educators with Academic Council or University Medical Line standing), for interdisciplinary research projects that seek to identify solutions to pressing problems in human and planetary health, advance equity, and build careers for Human and Planetary Health researchers.

Address complex human and planetary health issues, are innovative in approach, and have the potential to produce solutions to major challenges.
Provide career-building opportunities for junior faculty and instructors to lead on such research projects.
Take a cross-cutting, systems-thinking, and multi-disciplinary approach.
Advance and accelerate equity.
Engage with external stakeholders, especially if the research takes place in a community setting.
Have the potential for obtaining additional support.
Eligibility
The call is open to PI-eligible faculty from all seven schools: Academic Council Faculty and Medical Center Line Faculty.
Projects that create new interdisciplinary collaborations are encouraged. Projects may include team members from off-campus partner institutions, including in Low- or Middle-Income Countries, from nonprofit organizations, industry or government officials.
Key Dates:
January 21, 2025: Proposals due via online application (8:00 PM Pacific)
May 1, 2025: Award letters are sent out
October 1, 2025: Grants begin. Awards will be for 2 years or less. All grantees are eligible for one no-cost extension if necessary.
Amount of funding
$50,000 - $200,000.
This call is open to PI-eligible faculty from all seven schools. PI waivers will be accepted. Up to two grants will be awarded in the 2025 round of applications.
