2024 SoM K12 Mentored Career Development Award
The School of Medicine Kl2 Mentored Career Development Program (Kl2 Scholars Program) at Stanford University is a two-year research program funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the Stanford Clinical Translational Science Award (CTSA). The Kl2 Scholars Program is designed to offer advanced training in clinical and translational research to junior faculty. The program offers flexible learning models to engage scholars in team science, individual development plans, advanced research training, and career guidance.
Applicants must have a full-time (100%) appointment at the Instructor or Assistant Professor level (University Tenure Line, University Medical Line, Non-Tenure Line – Research) at Stanford University. Instructors may apply but must demonstrate a long-term commitment from sponsoring Division or Department.
Kl2 Scholars will pursue a mentored research project in their area of expertise. It is expected that the research performed within the Kl2 program will provide the basis for an independent NIH award (e.g., K23, K08, or R01). If a Kl2 Scholar's project involves human subjects and/or live vertebrate animals, you may not begin your research project until prior approval is received from the NIH National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences (NCATS). Information regarding the NCATS prior approval process will be sent to Kl2 scholars prior to the start of the two-year funding period.
The Kl2 Scholars Program provides partial salary support (up to $120,000 per year, or $106,050 per year for surgical specialties) for the two-year funding period. The program also provides $20,000 per year for the KL2 scholar’s research and $2,000 per year for travel to research meetings for the duration of the funding period.
